Earthquake information, not an early warning
This menu shows earthquakes that have already happened and been reported by the official agency. Morvyn does not predict earthquakes and does not warn you before shaking arrives. In an emergency, follow BMKG and your local authorities.
BMKG in Indonesia, USGS elsewhere
In Indonesia the data comes from BMKG, and outside Indonesia from the U.S. Geological Survey. Morvyn downloads their data files whole, shake map images included, and never sends your position to either of them.
Your country is worked out on the phone, in order from your last known position, your mobile network's country, the country code broadcast by nearby Wi-Fi routers, and then your phone's language. None of these use your IP address, so a VPN does not change the data source.
Distance from where you are
If you grant the location permission, the distance to each earthquake is calculated on your own phone. An approximate location is enough, and the permission stays optional.
A copy of the latest earthquake data is kept on the device, so the menu still has content while you are offline.
- BMKG as the source in Indonesia, the U.S. Geological Survey elsewhere
- Distance calculated on the phone, if you grant location
- Still has content while offline
Notifications you can tune
Earthquake notifications can be turned off or tuned: radius from your location, minimum magnitude, large earthquakes, and BMKG tsunami potential. A background check runs about every 15 minutes using the position already saved, without reading a new location.
